“Needs assessment in emergencies“ workshop in Gaza, from 11 to 13 May.

NECC/DSPR-Gaza with different local and international NGO’s participated in Needs Assessment in emergencies workshop held in Gaza City, Roots Hotel, from 11 to 13 May, 2014. This Workshop was funded by Fin-Church Aid; thanks to their support. The focus of the workshop was specifically on Needs Assessment cycle during emergencies. It aims to provide participants with the skills and confidence to plan and conduct a needs assessment using appropriate techniques. In the end of the workshop all participating organizations are able to explain the purpose of needs assessment within a humanitarian context, to design and plan an effective needs assessment selecting appropriate tools, and to analyze data using appropriate tools.   The workshop was facilitated by Graziella Ito-Pellegri , RedR Associate Trainer from RedR UK. The facilitator guided us through 3 -days of presentations, exercises and group work on how to set up needs assessment design in disaster relief, data collection methods, participatory assessment techniques, data analysis and needs assessment reporting. A lively group of participants made for many interesting questions and passionate discussions. All present showed a real sense of commitment to, and the importance of, developing needs assessment design during emergencies, which is a good sign for the future work of emergencies response and coordination together with partners and the people we together aim to assist.
